(A guide to the towns on the Emerald Coast for first time visit to Destin, FL)

At the heart of the Emerald Coast, nestled between Panama City and Ft. Walton, lies Destin, FL, a photography heaven. Outdoor activities in Destin, Florida are not hard to come by, here are our top faves!

The beauty is so rich that we held our wedding here in 2013. I love the protected beaches found within the Henderson Beach State Park. With a constant breeze and gorgeous sunset, these wedding photos are my favorites.

1. Outdoor activities in Destin, Florida

Destin, FL has something for every traveler. The serenity of the beach, numerous high-end outlet malls, the Harborwalk marina, and a nightlife for creating new memories. If this is your first time visit to Destin, FL, you’re in for a treat! I created a walking map to help you best explore Destin!

High-end outlets are home to various trendy restaurants and coffee shops. There are bargains in every store. The harborwalk is my favorite for the atmosphere alone. Seafood restaurants outnumber other varieties. They have just added big screen for outdoor movie nights and playing sports games. Live music and unique beverages are found at every corner. A zipline hangs above you and the marina alongside.

2.The nightlife is unparalleled

AJ’s is a seafood restaurant by day and a local music trove by night. If dancing on a bar is on your bucket list, as it is on mine, check out Coyote Ugly (yeah like the movie) for some boot stomping jams. Lastly, if Celtic music calls to you, head to McGuire’s Irish pub. This is the best place to experience St. Patty’s day if you’re on the Gulf Coast. Oh and try the Irish wakes. This is a must for your first time visit to Destin, FL.

3.It should be obvious by now that we love a good beer.

Head East towards 30A and Grayton beach and you will find three new breweries: all of which specialize in pale ales.

  1. Idyll Hounds brewing
  2. Destin Brewery
  3. Grayton Beer Company

For darker brews head west towards Ft. Walton and Navarre where you will find: (Also here are some great hotel ideas for your visit)

  1. Props micro brewery
  2. The Salty Duck-a game-filled bar
  3. Ye Olde Brothers brewery.

Destin is always an easy pick for my stay-cations and mental getaways. The last thing to mention is really the first thing you see when driving over the bridge, Crab Island. A glorious meeting point on top of a sandbar. A perfect destination for Outdoor activities in Destin, Florida.

There are boats, floats, and kayaks everywhere. They are all waiting their turn for the floating slides and restaurants anchored to the sandbar. For your first time visit to Destin, FL, you have to rent some kayaks our here!

I’m from Louisville, KY and growing up, Destin was THE place to go for spring break! We used to joke that it was Louisville 2.0 – everyone & their moms (and the rest of their families) went there annually! Love seeing it get some non spring-break love 🙂
