DIY Taco Crawl: Celebrating Cinco de Mayo

Taco Crawl: Cinco De Mayo

America has a way of creating National Holidays that gives us an excuse to engage in revelry and debauchery. Which one am I referring to today? Cinco de Mayo (Cinco de Drinko) AKA: Tacos and Tequila Day! We joined in on the fun by creating our own Taco Crawl: Cinco de Mayo style. We ate our way throughout Pensacola, FL. We found 3 taco havens we hadn’t tried before. Here’s our Tacos of Pensacola lineup:

“Tequila may not solve all our problems, but it’s worth a shot”

Tacos of Pensacola

1.Taqueria El Asador– This taco truck opened about 3 yrs ago and is located off of Davis Hwy, nicely tucked behind a Shell gas station. It has recently been voted #4 for best tacos in America! I could not wait to try this place out. After waiting in line about 25 minutes, I ordered.

The tacos were $2 each #winning, so I bought 4. I had the Asada, Pollo, and Lengua (beef tongue-so tender). They provide you with 4 varieties of sauces but I settled for good ‘ole salsa. Another 30 minutes passed, because this place is a hot spot right now, and I received my taco yum yum! Soft, yellow corn tortillas filled with meat, white onions, cilantro, and spices completed this first stop. So, delicious!

2.Taco Agave Our next stop was downtown, to visit Taco Agave for their grand opening. They are conveniently located between World of Beer and Blend Bar. (Tacos and Beer=a perfect combination!) They were opened from 6pm-2am, which gave us plenty of time to chow down!

A stage was setup and live music filled the blocked-off street. People were dancing and slurring around-post margaritas. We pushed our way through the crowd and up to the bar. We tried 3 tacos of Pensacola at $5 each: Vietnamese, Veggie, Jerk Chicken.

  • Vietnamese: Pickled veggies, cilantro, honey-sriracha soy sauce, Vietnamese-marinated pork (Our favorite)
  • Jerk Chicken: Caribbean slaw, plantains, and mango sour cream
  • Veggie: Black bean & corn salad, Caribbean slaw, diced mango, fried onion straws, and Sriracha source cream.

3.Tacos Mexicanos Third, on our Taco Crawl roundup is a food truck located off of 12 avenue. This is a prime location for hipsters and employees on lunch break. There is outdoor seating complete with twinkle lights above. The truck is open 11am-10pm Monday-Saturday.

I tried the Awesome Tacos+ side item for $10. I had the carne asada and Barbacoa (pulled pork). They were served in warm yellow corn tortillas and topped with red & white onions, cilantro, meat, feta, and avocado. This yummy goodness came paired with a Cajun-Mexican fusion rice on top of savory black beans. (my mouth is watering). So, Good!

At the end of the night, my vote is for MORE Tacos of Pensacola! I need them ALL! I really enjoyed the Vietnamese tacos at Taco Agave but loved the toppings of the Tacos Mexicanos. I also really liked that Taqueria El Asador served burritos and tostadas too. I highly recommend a Taco Crawl: Cinco De Mayo style!

First off, tacos=life. This is the smartest post ever because you literally drove around trying various drinks and tacos. I haven’t tried lingua, but I see it on Mexican food menus a lot. Maybe I will take your advice, and give it a try! 🙂

    1. Maegan says:

Tacos are life for real! Yeah lengua was so tender not chewy at all, like I thought it would be.

I love this idea for a Cinco de Mayo tradition! I’m thinking that next year, I have to find my own line up for a taco crawl. I’m pretty sure this will not be a tough thing to talk the family into joining me on. Thanks so much for the fun post and great idea. 😀

haha we hadn’t either. We created it ourselves!

  7. Aw man, that’s my diet ruined for today! These tacos look superb and I can’t believe how cheap they are. The same things in London would cost double (still wouldn’t only eat half as many though lol). Taco Agave looks like it would be my pick.

Any day is a good day for a Taco Crawl if you ask me! Seeing as I don’t live anywhere near Pensacola, I will have to do with the not-so-great Mexican places here in Hawaii and just dream about the taquerias you mentioned in your post haha!

    1. Maegan says:

haha However, Hawaii has it’s own delicacies to enjoy!
