Souvenirs from the Beach

souvenirs from the beach

It’s officially summer here in the USA. For many people that means a vacation to the beach! I have put together some ideas of souvenirs from the beach to bring home with you. Although I grew up on the Gulf Coast, I did not live at the beach like I do now. I ventured every Spring Break and Summer to the white sandy beaches in search of fun and sun! I looked forward to visiting the cheesy souvenir shops for my next beach keepsakes. Without further ado, here are souvenirs from the beach, for your next getaway!

10 Souvenirs from the beach for your next vacation:

1.Flip Flop Key chains: I had a number of these from each beach I’ve visited. My favorite was one that read “I love Michael” and it was purchased on a Spring Break in Myrtle Beach, SC. Ya’ll, if you haven’t read that post about how I almost got Michael beat up, you need to!

2.Airbrush T-shirts: This was my favorite item to collect from Orange Beach! It was entertaining to watch the artist spray paint a masterpiece from just a template. You can choose any color scheme you like. All you need is a white shirt or tank for them to design on. This was also the only way I could get a souvenir that had my name spelled correctly (Maegan).

3.Trucker Hats: I’m sorry, but these are freakin’ cute paired with a bathing suit! Besides, you are going to be in the hot sun for most of your trip and will need a head covering anyway. Grab one of these hats with a fun expression or the name of the beach you are visiting. Stay cool as you hang loose on the beach!

4.Bathing suit cover ups: If you don’t live in a beachy town, this is a great option. Often times, the cover ups at the beach are cheaper or more colorful than what you can find online or at your local department stores.

5.Car Stickers: A car sticker is cheap memorabilia to show off as you drive back home. Some common ones I see near Pensacola are: LoveFL, OBX, PCOLA, OBA, Beach Life, Salt Life, Gulf Life, etc.

6.Seashells: My favorite beach activity is collecting seashells. It is free and quite relaxing. Grab a bucket, cup, bag, or your pockets and start sifting.

*Insider tip: the best places to find shells and sand dollars are along the shoreline after a storm and near coral reefs or national seashores.

7.Tan lines: If you come home from the beach without awkward placed tan lines, you are doing it WRONG! I always end up with splotchy and misshapen tan lines despite turning and flipping obsessively! However, do wear sunscreen of at least an SPF 30 and remember to reapply every 2 hours or so.

8.Photographs: My longest-lasting souvenirs from the beach are found in my photo albums. So many summers were spent playing in the sand, drinking rum from fruit, failing at surfing, spotting dolphins, and growing up with my friends. There are so many small cameras and phone apps to make this a simple task.

*Insider tip: capture at least 1 sunrise and 1 sunset and snap more than just selfies. Someday you will want to relive your magic summers and show off your sandcastle building skills!

9.Henna Tattoos: What is a trip to the beach without fake tattoos?! There is nothing like having sea turtle—shaped tan lines to remember your trip by. These are always fun, spur-of-the-moment activities to do with a group and they only last about 1 week.

10.Koozies: Did you find a favorite beach bar to bum at? Grab a koozie with its name on it and revisit those tropical nights!

This is adorable! I always loved henna tattoos – on a good year i’d come home with them all over my hands! You missed one integral part of a beach visit though….getting a cotton hair braid! No vacation as a kid was complete without getting one of those! (I never thought about the months of regrowth when it gets cut out though!) Hehe.

    1. Maegan says:

      haha that is awesome!

  2. Tasha Amy says:

Good article, the only another souvenir I would add would be a sunburn. I always end up with one of those after time at the beach 😛

I love the tan lines.. never thought about it! Thank you. Also try to collect shells as it is not an environment friendly activity. These shells provide shelter to small crustaceans and when they break, it becomes sand.

  16. sophie says:

These are some great souvenirs you have there! I love getting tanned hence the tan lines are my most favorite things!
